Very interesting article. I'd like to know how Whitney Houston came to record the Robert Wyatt song Memories, with Archie Shepp on sax. Daevid had recorded it with the Soft Machine when he was still in the band, and again on the Bananamoon LP, so it figures BL would have heard the song. How W.H . and Archie Shepp got to record it in Laswell's studio, I'd like to know. Any info on that?
My understanding is that her part was added on in another studio. They were never in the same studio together. I think I got this from Martin Bisi, but I'll have to check my notes. He also told me her career was being managed by her then famous singer mother. WH was not famous then, and up to that point had mostly done back up singing on other recordings. How they picked the song Memories I'm not sure.
