The joy and exhaustion are written all over his smile. CJ tells me how he managed to see all the bands that helped him celebrate his 10 years of booking shows at Winters Tavern. That would be 10 days in a row of shows in April, and it happened just a couple of weeks ago.
In those 10 years he’s built a solid rep for the venue that’s respected by both local and touring musicians. He’s also built a community of live music lovers, like me. Winters Tavern has become a place not only to hear live music, but also to make new friends.
We talked about all of this, and I just could not stop myself from literally giving him a pat on the back for all his hard work. Corny? You bet. And as heartfelt as that smile on his face.
When we got to talking about the May shows, I was a bit surprised that I didn’t know any of the bands. CJ pulled out a sheet of notes and as he started describing the bands, I asked him for more details. More than once I heard the magic word “experimental” come out of his mouth.
Discovering new music is what I love, and it looks like there will be several opportunities for that in May at Winters Tavern. Who knows, maybe I’ll get another interview with an experimental band!
