Correction: vaccine invention
In my post on “risk” I incorrectly stated: “the Spanish Flu of 1918 which happened before vaccines were invented”. Vaccines had been invented over 100 years prior, but none for influenza. In 1918 it was not even known that a virus was the cause of the flu. This did not stop some from experimenting with vaccines, but none proved to be effective for influenza. The first influenza vaccines were developed in the 1930’s with widespread use in the USA by 1945. If you want to dig into this more, start here:
