changes at The Non-Writer
the creative process messes with time
Time flies when you’re …
The Non-Writer started as a tool to help me write a book that was stalled in not one, but two incomplete drafts. In that time, a book did get published, but not mine. (I did help get the book published and wrote the foreword for Giorgio Gomelsky - For your Love by Francis Dumaurier.)
Lots of other unexpected things happened too. I got to interview musicians whose work I have enjoyed for decades as well as some I heard for the first time at my tavern. I learned video editing from doing those interviews and discovered I loved it. So I made a film. What other surprises does The Non-Writer have in store for me? And you!
Time flies when you’re having fun. And the creative process can take this to a-whole-nother level. Story writing led to interviews. Interviews led to video editing. Video editing led to filmmaking. Poof, 5 years have passed. Still no book.
That’s about to change. I’m adding 3 new tabs to The Non-Writer home page.
One tab is for my book The Gomelsky Recordings. I’ll be releasing chapters as they become nearly finished. And I say “nearly” because I know some of you will have stories to add as well as corrections to make, and I will encourage you to do so. I’m drafting all of you as editors … thanks in advance :-).
One tab is for Interviews. You’ll find nearly 30 interviews with avant-garde musicians from around the globe, some famous, some related to the book, all world class.
One tab is for Films. I’ve only made one film so far, but there will be more and you will find them here, including the final cut of that one film (thanks to the feedback from all of you test audience volunteers out there), debut happening soon.
Here’s what the new tabs look like …
Days and years seem to pass more quickly. The creative process absorbs my mind completely and the result is a time machine catapulting me into the future.
This is what it’s been like for me at The Non-Writer.
You might be thinking, “hey Rick, you’re just a slow writer”, and you’d be correct. But to me, after I finish a story, I see the clock and it shocks me. Hours have gone by that felt like minutes. Creating a story is like traveling at the speed of light. I find the time dilation effect thrilling, and a bit alarming.
Thanks for joining me. See you soon in the next story.

The changes at The Non-Writer feel intentional and refreshing. It’s great to see growth that still stays true to the core voice and purpose. Looking forward to what’s next.
It's good to know that you are back in the saddle ... 😎
